Hello, I hope you are well.
I really liked the idea of the the Celebrate Today Magnet Board Kit when I first saw it, but the colours in the kit don’t really coordinate with the rooms that I’d want to use the board in. So, I’ve adapted the kit to fit into my blue craft room by using the Waves Of Inspiration bundle and Waves of the Ocean designer series paper…
You can add any 12″ x 12″ designer series paper into the magnet board frame so I chose one of the bold blue designs from the Waves of Inspiration pack.
I used the green pocket from the kit but added some Pacific Point, Misty Moonllight and Night of Navy ink to it with blending brushes to make it coordinate with my background paper a bit more. I did this to the inside too. I also stamped the front of the pocket with the the Waves Of Inspiration stamp using Pacific Point ink and then added Balmy Blue and Basic White die cuts from the Waves Dies set. I love the way this turned out.
The other pocket in the kit is pink on one side or grey floral on the other so neither would work so well. Instead, I used it as a template to cut a new pocket from the Waves of the Ocean DSP. This time I chose one of the designs with greens and blues so I could use more of the green elements from the kit. I didn’t want the reverse side of the DSP to show so added another piece of the design I wanted on top of what would be the top of the inside, this also made it a bit sturdier. I stamped the pelican with Soft Suede ink onto Basic White card and die cut it before glueing it to the front of the pocket.
If you wanted to made extra pockets for your board I’d suggest taking a look at the video tutorial my friend Gez created to show you how you can get 2 from 1 sheet of card stock – just CLICK HERE to see her blog and then watch the video.
If you intend to add lots of bits and bobs to these pockets then I’d definitely suggest using 2 of the magnetic library clips from the kit to stop it sliding out of position.
I wanted some of my cards to be shown on the board so I simply added a little strip of magnetic sheet onto the reverse of them. I also added some extra decoration to some so they’d coordinate with the ocean theme…
The stickers with Remember and Make Time For are just 2 of the many included in the kit. Adding some ink and DSP can really step these cards up and may make you use them more.
I saw a tip about adding window sheets to the front of the cards so you can reuse them so I did that with the To Do and Calendar ones – I need to order more window sheets and have to get myself some dry wipe pens. There will be no excuse for not being organised then, lol
My little motivational card started off as white and with dark lines but again I blended on my 3 blue inks, stamped the sentiment from Waves of Inspiration and cut it with a Waves die. I simply threaded through another bit of the beautiful DSP and die cut a couple of bird shapes to complete the look.
I had lots of inky fun creating this adapted version of a really useful kit! If you’d like to see more about using the kit as it was intended then please click on the video below…
