Grapefruit Grove birthday card

Hello.

Today’s card was made for a sketch challenge set by Tricia Smith in her Facebook group “Crafty Stamping Club – Smiths Crafty Creations”…

I will be honest, when I saw this sketch my first reaction was ‘nope! not for me’ It really isn’t my style of card as there’s too much going on. What I really meant was ‘that’s too far out of my comfort zone’

Well, isn’t that what ‘challenges’ are all about? So I decided to give it a go and I just toned it down a little bit to create this card…

I started with my usual card base size of 21 x 14.5 cm, scored and folded on the long side at 10.5 cm. I used Grapefruit Grove card for a nice wee change.

I then used my Stitched Rectangle dies for the Very Vanilla and Grapefruit Grove layers. I added the Grapefruit Grove twine from the Nature’s Twine set before I added these layers to my card base.

I used a Pearlized Doily but coloured the reverse side of it with Grapefruit Grove ink, using a sponge brayer. Again I added this to my layers before I added them to the card, which allowed me to easily trim off the excess.

I cut the foliage and flowers from Grapefruit Grove and Very Vanilla card using the Bouquet Bunch set of dies.

The sentiment comes from the Beautiful Bouquet stamp set and was stamped in Grapefruit Grove ink onto Very Vanilla card and cut with the Tailored Tag punch. I used the same punch on Grapefruit Grove card, cut it in half lengthwise and added to the back of the stamped one. I then added this to my card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I added a few Gingham Gala sequins for a little bit of bling.

Finally I added a piece of Very Vanilla card measuring 9.5 x 13.5 cm to the inside of the card. I stamped this with flowers from the Beautiful Bouquet set using Grapefruit Grove ink.

I’m glad I accepted this challenge and didn’t go with my initial reaction as I really like the end result. It’s good to step out of our creative comfort zones every now and again.

I hope you’ve enjoyed today’s card. I’ve listed the products I’ve used below and you can click on any of the links to start shopping.

Happy crafting,

Heather x
