Hello and happy Friday!
Today I’d like to show you a rather large box that I made for a birthday gift of a Yankee candle…
As this is quite a large candle it called for a large box that measures 3 & 1/4 inches square on the base and 4 inches tall. The dimensions meant that I actually had to cut sections from 2 sheets of A4 Calypso Coral card. Both sheets started off being cut down to 11 & 1/2 by 7 inches and scored
- on the long side at 3 & 1/4 inches then 7 & 1/4 inches and finally at 10 & 1/2 inches
- on the short side at 1/2 inch then 3 & 3/4 inches
The pieces then need to cut as described below and shown in the next photograph.
For the part on the left – remove the 1 inch panel along the top. The skinny (1/2 inch) panel on the left needs the top and bottom sections removed and the middle one wedged to create the tab to glue the sides of your box together. Then the top right section needs to be removed and the top left cut in half. I rounded the corners on the part cut in half using my Detailed Trio punch. The bottom panels just need to be cut up to the first score line. The
For the part on the right – the part farthest from the skinny (1/2 inch) panel just needs the vertical score lines cut and the corners rounded. The skinny panel and the one to the right of that need cut down in the same way as you did for the other piece of card
You’ll see that I notched out a bit with my 1/2 inch circle punch that will make it easier to open the box when assembled.
I then added panels of Pineapple Punch card then Happiness Blooms designer series paper (DSP) to the 4 sides of the box. The card measures 3 inches by 3 & 3/4 inches. The DSP measures 2 & 3/4 inches by 3 & 1/2 inches. I then used my 1/2 inch circle punch to cut the notch out in the 2 new layers I added. I did it this way as it would struggle to go through 3 layers at once.
You also need Pineapple Punch card measuring 3 inches square and DSP measuring 2 & 3/4 inches square for the panel that will be the lid.
You need to glue the sides together using both the skinny tabs and then you fold in the bottom panels to form the base – fold in the 2 side ones, then the back and finally the front.
To decorate it I tied some Calypso Coral ribbon around the box with a bow in the front. I stamped Happy Birthday from the Happy Birthday Gorgeous stamp set in Pineapple Punch ink onto Whisper White card then cut it with my 2 inch circle punch. I backed this with Calypso Coral card cut with my Starburst punch. I then added this to the front of the box with foam adhesive strips, making sure they lined up either side of the ribbon. Finally I added some flowers I made with the Bitty Blooms punch – 2 of them from DSP and 1 from card.
I hope you like this project as much as I enjoyed making it. I probably wouldn’t have put Calypso Coral and Pineapple Punch together but they are such a fun and bright combination!

Thank you so much for your lovely comment Mal. I did a few videos ages ago but found it so stressful for the tiny amount of views I got so I just blog now.

Heather thank you for responding. As an older lady (73) I find I need the video and written instructions to keep me pointed in the right direction but I have made many of your projects without any problems so I suppose that is suggesting I don’t need videos. I just thank you sincerely for your willingness to share your craft with me. And I can truly appreciate how intimidating producing a video can be. I just couldn’t do it. Blessings: Mal
