Tall Octagonal gift box tutorial

August 12, 2023

12 Aug

Today I’d like to share this tall octagonal gift box, that would be perfect for all sorts of gifts and occasions. I’ve also got a YouTube tutorial to show you exactly how it’s made.

This is the gift box I made before recording my tutorial…

Photo of an octagonal gift box in shades of blue with For You on the front, with pretty flowers. There's a large ribbon bow at the top of the box

The finished box measures approx 3″ x 3″ x 4″ so will fit lots of little goodies inside.

I used Misty Moonlight card, Countryside Inn designer series paper and the Just My Type stamp set for my first version. Please check out the next version I made in my video tutorial.

YOUTUBE TUTORIAL

I’d love you to click on the image above or if you prefer you can click here to pop over to YouTube and check out how easy these boxes are to make. If you enjoy watching my video, I’d love you to give it a thumbs up and leave me a wee comment too. If you haven’t already subscribed to my channel, make sure you do so when you’re there; so you don’t miss out on future videos.

Here’s the octagonal gift box I made in the video, along with the one I made earlier…

Photo of two octagonal gift boxes in shades of blue with For You on the front, with pretty flowers. There are 3 of the chocolates I put inside to show the scale

I managed to fit 10 chocolates into each gift box. Now that’s what I call a treat!

Here’s a close up of the fun closure on these octagonal gift boxes…

MEASUREMENTS

To make the box in the video you’ll need the following supplies:

  • Night of Navy card measuring 6-1/4″ x 10-1/2″
    • score on the long side at 1-1/4″, 2-1/2″, 3-3/4″, 5″, 6-1/4″, 7-1/2″, 8-3/4″ and 10″
    • score on the short side at 1/2″ and 4-1/2″
    • add in diagonal score lines as shown in the video
    • score on the long side from the cross point of the diagonal lines up to the top of the card
      • these should be at 5/8″, 1-7/8″, 3-1/8″, 4-3/8″, 5 -5/8″, 6-7/8″, 8-1/8″ and 9-3/8″
  • 2 pieces of Night of Navy card to create octagons for the base
    • mark each side of the squares at 7/8″ and 2-1/8″
    • cut off the corners between the marks as shown in the video
    • trim 1 of the octagons down a little so it fits inside the box – again, see the video
  • 8 pieces of Country Side Inn designer series paper measuring 1″ x 3-3/4″
  • Basic White card for stamping and punching with the 2″ circle punch
  • Night Of Navy card for punching with the 2-3/8″ circle punch

I hope you like today’s project and will give it a try.
