Fab Friday 029 – a sketch challenge

Hello!

Today I’m taking part in the latest Fab Friday challenge which is to use this card layout, or sketch…

You can click on the following link to see what the amazing design team created with this layout, along with the other entries:

And here’s my interpretation…

I decided to try a technique that I’d never done before, using masking or painters tape. You simply add the tape to your ink pad, sticky side down so that it picks up the ink, then put the inked up tape onto your card, give it a bit of a rub and then lift it up again. It’s a great way to add textured and uneven stripes to your card without getting too messy – although I’d just re-inked 2 of the pads I used so my fingers got a bit more inky than I anticipated, lol!

The colours I used were Flirty Flamingo, Melon Mambo and Gorgeous Grape. I used the tape to ink up a piece of Basic White card that measures 9.5 x 13.5 cm. To add even more texture to the look I ran this piece through my Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine in the Painted Texture 3D embossing folder. I then mounted that to a piece of Flirty Flamingo card that measures 10 x 14 cm and added it to my Basic White Thick card base that was 21 x 14.5 cm, scored and folded on the long side at 10.5 cm.

I used the Art Gallery stamps for the flower and sentiment, using the same ink colours again. My stamped square panel measures 6 x 6 cm and I added this to the card with one of the Square Vellum Doilies underneath.

I used the little label die from the Floral Gallery dies set for the sentiment and extra label in Gorgeous Grape card. The finishing touch was to add 3 of the Opal Rounds that have flashes of the pink and purple tones too.

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing my interpretation of this sketch and will be tempted to join in the fun over at Fab Friday too. This challenge is open until 25 March 2021.

I’ve listed the products I used for today’s card below, except the masking tape! You can click on any product link to be directed to that item in my online Stampin’ Up! shop. I really would love to be your independent demonstrator.

Everyone that shops with me will receive a thank you card and handmade gift. If your order is under £150 please use my current Host Code so that I can add an extra gift to your thank you pack. See the Host Code page in the main menu for more info.

Happy crafting,

Heather x

When I first saw your card I was trying to figure out which stamp you used for the background stripes then figured it had to a retired one I wasn’t familiar with but the painters tape technique is even better! I’ve never done it before but it gives really cool results! I like the subtle texture and your use of the vellum square also! Thanks for sharing at Fab Friday!

Thank you so much Amanda, it’s a new technique for me too and it really is fun. Every stripe is a little bit different xx

Very cool, Heather – I love these colors together, and what a fun new technique to try! I have a “messy” class coming up that I think we’ll have to give this a go in! Thanks so much for playing at Fab Friday!
