Hello, I hope you are well.
About a month or so ago I shared with you a 3D Star Pop Up Card that I’d made for my best friend, following a tutorial from Karen Egan of www.craftykarendesigns.blogspot.com. As it was my husband’s 50th birthday recently I wanted to create another wow card and used Karen’s tutorial again, with a couple of tweaks and here’s the result…
I followed Karen’s measurements that you can find in this blog post:
https://craftykarendesigns.blogspot.com/2023/01/dainty-flowers-pansy-patch-3d-star-pop.html
For my card base I used 3 pieces of Shaded Spruce card and 3 pieces of Basic White Thick card. Instead of the silver foil that Karen used, I used a mix of Shaded Spruce and Basic White and this time I didn’t use any designer series paper but instead I stamped panels of Basic White and Shaded Spruce card with stamps from Beautiful Balloons. Some of the stamping on the Shaded Spruce pieces are heat embossed with clear powder and some are simply tone on tone stamping with Shaded Spruce ink. The white panels were stamped with Shaded Spruce and Granny Apple green inks.
My biggest departure from Karen’s card is the floating panels on the front and back. I wanted a big and bold statement so I stamped the Happy Birthday from Phrases for All with Versamark and then Shaded Spruce ink and heat embossed with clear powder. I also added Versamark ink onto Shaded Spruce card, added clear embossing powder and heat set that. Once it was cool I die cut my husband’s name from this super shiny card with Alphabet A La Mode. I arranged the die cut letters under the sentiment and then cut the whole piece with a Scalloped Contours die.
I added a second Scalloped Contours die to the back for a personal message…
As the panel on the front also supports some stamped heat embossed and die cut balloons made with the Beautiful Balloons bundle, I needed this part to pop out a bit more. So my support for this measured 1-1/4″ x 5″, scored on the long side at 1/2″, 1-1/2″, 3-1/2″ and 4-1/2″. The support for the back panel was the same as Karen used for her front panel (3″ x 1″, scored at 1/2″, 1″, 2″ & 2-1/2″)…
As you can see, the die cut balloons and streamers were added to the back of the front panel with strips of Window Sheet. I admit that I’ve used some retired silver shimmer paper for the numbers and streamers, but it justifies me keeping it in my stash, lol…
As with my best friend’s card, I simply had to make a matching box for such a special card and here it is…
Again I’ve used stamps from Beautiful Balloons to stamp the background of the box topper with Shaded Spruce and Granny Apple Green inks. I didn’t have ribbon in either colour so I substituted Parakeet Party metallic ribbon and some Parakeet Party pearls.
For the additional decoration I used the Circle Sayings stamp set, Alphabet A La Mode dies and Stylish Shapes dies…
It was then liberally splashed with Wink Of Stella for some extra sparkle!

As the card I made for my husband’s 50th birthday was chunkier, I changed the depth of the box to 1″ so the revised measurements for the box are as follows:
- Shaded Spruce card for the base measuring 7-1/4″ x 9-1/4″ – scored on each side at 1″
- Basic White Thick card for the lid measuring 7-5/16″ x 9-5/16″ (ie 1/16″ larger than the base) – scored on each side at 1″
The finished gift box measures 5-1/4″ x 7-1/4″ x 1″
I hope you like both this card and gift box will give them a try too.
